Early Fall Favorites

Now that school is in full swing I've been doing little other than what is necessary - simply because there is no time for anything else!

I've been popping between my home office (aka tiny desk in my room) and the library, trying to keep up with responsibilities for classes, going to meetings, keeping in touch with friends, taking care of my sweet horse, and taking care of myself.

Since I'm not popping over to the shops every other day I'm cramming a month of clothes, makeup, and homeware shopping in one day that comes every three or four weeks.

This has resulted in some serious over-shopping.

So I thought I'd justify that indulgence a little bit by sharing some of my favorite things from the past couple of months.

This Little Pig [Bahamas]

A few years back we visited Green Turtle on a trip much like this one. At one point, while cruising on the golf carts of course, we accidentally found ourselves in the dump.

Yes, islands have dumps. I was surprised, too.

But even more surprising was that in this dump was half a dozen wild chickens and two giant pigs.

Bahama Mamas

Every year my family flees to the Bahamas for a long weekend. I'm not talking about the mega resorts with chipper staff waiting on your every need.

Our Bahamas is the one the locals experience. The one untouched by the wands of a thousand businessmen.

Skidaway Island, Savannah

After our stroll in the park, we took to the automobile for a ride to Skidaway Island.

It's a little less tropical than you'd imagine.

Savannah Sweethearts

A couple weeks ago my friend B came down for a visit. She studies at SCAD up in Savannah, and stayed up there this summer to work and create in her own space.

Knowing we were at a loss without her, she graced us with her presence for one short week. By the time our seven days were up, El and Em had made the decision to drive B back up to Savannah as a last hurrah for the summer.

Back to School Looks

Can you forgive me for disappearing?

I have been so wrapped up in weekend trips, work, and back to school prep that I have barely had a chance to hop online the past two weeks. Luckily, I've been brainstorming hard for you guys! And my busy-ness means a slew of posts coming up in the next few weeks.

But enough of that - let's hit the books for a few back to school looks.

[a little] Monday Inspiration

Mondays can be hard. Waking up and heading back to the grind after a weekend of rest is never exactly what you're in the mood for.

Still, Mondays let you wipe the slate clean and start again. Who needs to wait for the new year?!

Summer Tunes [New Music Favorites]

Living in the sweltering Florida heat makes me partial to the small relief that comes in autumn. Things cool down just enough for cosy sweaters and combat boots, which is a beautiful relief from the summer months when you break a sweat just stepping outside.

I do, however, relish summer for the endless stream of new music! It's as if every recording artist simultaneously decided to drop new tunes as the first days of summer roll around.

The Blue Mosque and Grand Bazaar, Istanbul

The next morning we rose early for our trip to the mosque. We were staying quite a distance from it, so maneuvering to that part of the city would take much of the morning.

Once we landed in the historic district, we headed to the line. While they allow, and even encourage, visitors, there is still a distinction made between who is coming as a tourist and who is coming as a believer.

Istanbul at Night

We spent most of the next afternoon on the boat. We had left the docks that morning and were chugging along towards Istanbul until early evening.

Without warning we poked our heads out the window and were staring at the city!

Ano Mera & Chora, Mykonos

The van rumbled through the streets of Mykonos, dipping between the landscape as we moved to and from the coast.

Chora, Mykonos

The island of Mykonos.

My God does this place take your breath away.

Kusadasi & Ephesus

The next morning we more or less rose with the sun. I zombie-walked to breakfast with my sister and drowned myself in coffee until I perked up. We were ushered along quickly and disembarked in Kusadasi, Turkey promptly at 9AM.

Fira, Santorini & Donkey Lovin'

We left off with us ferrying over to the capital of Santorini, Fira. This was the Greece I had been expecting all along.

Santorini Sunshine, Akrotiri & Oia

Bright and early we rolled out of bed and devoured breakfast. Our day would be a full day tour exploring our first stop: the island of Santorini.

Athens Explorations, Day 2

The next morning was slow and groggy. After a good bit of poking and prodding, as well as the promise of good food, I rolled out of bed and trudged to up the stairs with the rest of my family.

All weariness vanished the second I stumbled into the dining room and caught sight of the view.

Athens Explorations, Day 1

When you think of Greece, what do you picture? White washed buildings capped with round blue roofs? Cobblestone streets with sprawling outdoor patios? Tables packed with jovial Grecians chatting and feasting the afternoon away?

Naive as it may be, that is what I imagined until we touched down in the sand toned city of Athens.

Fashion Discovery: ASOS SALON

I am a die hard ASOS fan. The clothes are quality and affordable, the site is easy to navigate, and for a reasonable $30 you get a year of free two-day shipping.

It is my holy grail of fashion sites.

More than anything, I love online shopping. This makes ASOS, an online-only fashion mecca, my favorite site to peruse. I can spend hours on a day off just kicking back and browsing through the pages of gorgeous clothes.

And trust me, I'm not getting paid to say any of this.

This afternoon I was on the hunt for a dress to wear to my Aunt's upcoming nuptials, when I stumbled on this baby:

The Biltmore. Day Two.

We rose bright and early the next morning to tackle a full day.

We swung into town for breakfast at The Moose Cafe, clearly a spot for locals - we stuck out like sore thumbs. We weren't as early as hoped, and had to beg and bribe our waitress into giving us the breakfast menu rather than lunch. She caved.

We were rewarded for our efforts with barrels of biscuits and greasy, fried meals.

The Biltmore.

If I could be a part of any family, it would be the Vanderbilt clan.

Savannah & My SCAD Bee

B is the loveliest of lovely. My best friends are all blonde babes, but she definitely has the biggest personality despite being the smallest, and often the most soft spoken.

We rolled in to Savannah late, with nothing more than a quick stop at the sub shop. We headed back to their dorm at O House (Oglethorpe) to lounge in bed and marvel at the walls dotted with delicious artwork.

Jekyll Island Stopover

If you recall, I told you about celebrating New Year's 2014 with my near and dear best friends. One of the beauts I get to call my bestie, B, is attending Savannah College of Art and Design. B is easily the most talented person I know. She's a bit like my soul sister; we share the same yearning spirits and opportunistic outlook on life.

The Rez

At Florida State we have an oasis off campus lovingly dubbed "The Rez". It's a big lake with glassy water that laps at grassy banks. Massive trees covered in Spanish moss sprout from deep water near the edges of the lake. You can take kayaks, paddleboards, or canoes through narrow tree-lined passages from one big lake to the next.

On shore there is a massive beach volleyball setup and a large rock wall for climbing. Sailboats line the shore, waiting for the moment someone breaks them out onto the open water.

2015: A Recommitment

This blog has been sorely neglected. I queued up a few bits that failed to post, and then just gave up on the whole thing. But 2014 has been too groundbreaking a year for me to do it again. I want to push myself to write about the things I do and the things I love, and I want to commit to following through on the things I have started.

So, cheers. Here's to the new year.
