Somewhere on a Beach [Exumas, Bahamas]

In 2006 some family friends opened the door to one of the greatest experiences of my life. They invited us on a trip with them to Spanish Cay, a small, private island in the Bahamas.

We went that summer and nearly every one since, some trips with them, some by ourselves, some with our own friends. We've both flown there in dingy little planes and braved the sea in hardy little boats over the years, but never made it farther south than the Abacos.

This year a few family members hopped on another of those dingy little planes and took to the skies so we could check out another chain of islands in the Bahamas, the Exumas, where we holed up for a week at the Staniel Cay Yacht Club.

I have a few posts coming up for you about it, but let me tell you right now - it was glorious.

We dipped in crystal blue water, fed iguanas, swam with sharks, visited movie sights, and snorkeled along the beach (basking on some amazing turkish towels like this - they're quick drying and oh so soft, I've already invested in one).

Despite rainy weather, the Exumas did not disappoint.

I've been to a lot of beautiful coasts over the years; trekked to the Abacos a dozen times, gone from Hawaii to Bonaire, to the French Riviera and the Italian one, hopped through the Greek Isles, and (of course) lived on the Florida coast. But truly, nothing compares to the water of the Exumas.

I can't wait to share more.
